Second Friday Céilí dances, 7:00 - 10:00 p.m.
On the second Friday of each month we hold a traditional Irish céilí -- an evening of music, Irish and Scottish folk dancing, and socializing.
Location: First Christian Church,
101 North 10th Street Columbia
Corner of Tenth and Walnut Streets in downtown Columbia.
Park and enter through the back of the building; the door faces Ash Street. See a map of the locationAdmission is $5 for adults, kids 14 & under attend free.
Beginners are very welcome! No partner and no experience necessary.
Please wear clean, soft-soled shoes to protect the dance floor.
All dances are taught, and get progressively more complex as the evening goes on. We mainly do "céilí" dances, a specific type of group social dances, but also add a "set" dance or two and a couple waltzes and sometimes a Scottish country dance.
Music is provided by a live band, usually made up of local musicians.
Schedule: 7:00 p.m. Beginner's lesson for anyone who has never done any Irish social dancing before, and anyone that just needs a refresher. 7:30 p.m. dances begin.
Refreshments provided. Children are welcome.
Set /Ceili Dance Club
Set dances are a bit more structured than céilí dances and the moves more complex, so they take a bit more practice. They aren't as repetitive as céilí dances, so they tend to be a lot more fun for experienced dancers. There is a small, enthusiastic group of set dancers in Columbia who meet weekly to learn and practice set dances. Anyone is welcome to join us any week and give it a try. No experience necessary, we will teach you the dances.
The set dance club meets on Monday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.. The location varies, so if you are interested in attending, please contact: Jennifer Kimball or Kat Difoxfire
