This is a quick update to let you know a few important things. (not a full length newsletter)

  • There are a few tickets remaining for The Chieftains concert tonight. Most of them are single seats, but there are a few pairs in the upper balcony. You can buy online or get to the box office when the doors open. It's also possible someone may return unused tickets tonight.   • Children's step dancing (ages 5 - 12) and tin whistle class will begin on Monday, January 26 and run for 8 weeks, 5:30 - 7 p.m. Cost is $85 for both. Tin whistles are available from us for $8. Register with CMCAA by calling 442-2048 or reply to this e-mail.
  • Irish Set dancing for teens and adults, taught by Christine Harker, will begin on Thursday January 29 and run for 4-weeks. Cost is $25 or two people for $40. No experience and no partner is necessary. Register with CMCAA by calling 573-442-2048 or reply to this e-mail.
  •  CMCAA is offering, through Columbia Parks and Recreation Irish social dancing for families and beginning tin whistle. Irish social dancing for families: Wednesdays January 28 - Feb 25 (skip 2/18) 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Cost is $35 for articipant and $25 for each additional family member Beginning Tin whistle: Wednesdays, Jan 28 - Feb 25 (skip 2/18) 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Cost is $35 plus $8 for whistle, if needed Register through Parks and Rec by calling 573-874-7460
  • Ken Hines of the Boone Co Fire District Pipe Band is offering a beginning Highland Bagpipes class that will run 10 weeks, beginning Tuesday, February 3. Cost is $149 Register through th Career Center by calling 573-886-2289 or online at www.career-center.org 
  • Spring session of CMCAA classes will begin March 1 and go for 8 weeks. Details will be posted on our web site this week. We'll be offering beginning and intermediate classes for: tin whistle, flute, fiddle, accordion, Irish language. We'll also offer Accompaniment for Traditional Music (for piano and guitar), and History of Irish Music.

  • Song Circle - We're attempting to start an Irish and Scottish themed song circle on Sunday evenings, beginning next week, January 25. If you would like to participate, reply to this e-mail. This will be a jam-session style group, with no commitment required and no cost. Just enthusiasm and a few songs are needed.
  • Irish singer Tom Sweeney will be performing St. Louis on Sunday, March 7 at the The Radisson Hotel, 7750 Carondelet, Clayton, Mo. at 6:30PM. An evening with Tom is simply superb so give yourself a treat and experience what many people across miles and miles of music have know for a long time - that Tom Sweeney is the real thing.
