Just a quick newsletter with some alerts:

No concert tonight. On our earlier calendar flyers, there was a show scheduled for tonight at Cherry Street Artisan, however there is no show at Artisan tonight. We haven't been publicizing it, but since it's on the calendars distributed early in the summer, I thought I'd make a point of saying it, in case anyone was planning on it.

Instead..... We're going to have a special concert on Friday, August 22

Luck Penny will play at Sacred Heart Church Activity Building at 8 p.m. with special guest fiddler Tim Langen. Our artists-in-residence Helen Gubbins and Deirdre Harnedy, along with home-grown pianist Austin Dey have been playing music together all summer, and have polished up loads of sets and several songs. This will be a great way to wrap up the summer!

Artiststs-in-Residence for the year!

I'd say that the concert on August 22 is a "going away" concert, as Helen and Deirdre will be leaving Columbia on August 27, BUT.. good news! They have both decided to defer graduate school for a year and return to Columbia at the beginning of October to continue teaching and performing. There are still some details to work out and a visa that must be approved, but it's looking good. They have both proved to be very capable teachers and all-around remarkable young women. We're working on the fall schedule of classes and scheduling some performances and school visits. More details soon.

Here are a few more opportunities to hear them yet this summer:

Wednesday, August 13, D'Agostinos, 7 - 10 p.m. Helen and Deirdre. D'Agostino's restaurant is in Cherry Hill Village in Columbia (Scott Blvd and Chapel Hill Rd ) Wednesday, August 20 Summit Lake Winery, 5 - 7 p.m. (Luck Penny)
