This band formed in 1992 as a cross-cultural peace initiative using the Lambeg Drum and bodhran, two emotionally-charged icons of Northern sectarianism. What started as a creative idea in community relations, evolved into a highly successful world music band that embodies the principles of peaceful coexistence, tolerance and marching to the beat of ones own drum.
Different Drums blends the sounds of the Uilleann pipes, Irish drums, African hand drums, Japanese drums, whistle and guitar. They're music is a colorful mixture of traditional dance tunes and original songs with a rock flavor.
